Description of material
A popular material in various areas of construction, industry and production is a cold-rolled steel channel. It is manufactured by bending a steel strip on special bending equipment and has a cross-section resembling the letter P. A bent channel differs from a hot-rolled analogue in production technology, weight, configuration, steel composition and performance indicators.
A cold-rolled channel can have a thickness of 2 to 15 mm, a flange width of 32-115 mm, and a height of 50-400 mm. According to the shape of the profile, a distinction is made between bent equal-flange and bent unequal-flange channels. The first type is made from rolled steel of ordinary quality and carbon structural steel according to GOST 8278-83, the second - from cold-rolled and hot-rolled rolled steel of ordinary quality or carbon high-quality low-alloy and structural steel according to GOST 8281-80. The bent steel channel has a number that provides information about its height (cm). Depending on the equipment used and the perfection of the technology, the bent channel is divided by accuracy into:
A - high;
B - increased;
B - normal.
The bent channel, taking into account the purpose and conditions of use, can be coated with a layer of zinc, powder paint, or made of stainless steel, in which the percentage of the alloying element is equal to or exceeds 13%. Such measures protect the structure of steel channels from corrosion processes, high and low temperatures and aggressive environments.
The steel channel, the cost of which depends on the composition of the steel and dimensions, has many advantages, due to which it has become widespread in many areas:
high strength characteristics;
resistance to longitudinal and transverse loads;
wide range of channels;
low weight;
lower production costs (unlike hot-rolled);
lower cost (unlike hot-rolled).
The bent channel GOST 8278-83 has a U-shaped cross-section, various dimensions and weight of one linear meter. Features of the manufacturing technology provide it with rounded external corners and the same thickness of the shelves (parallel internal faces).
Scope
The bent channel made according to GOST 8278-83 is in demand and is used in the construction of various buildings and structures, in the installation of metal frames, partitions, walkways, crossings, and pipeline support structures. Possessing sufficient strength, it can withstand significant longitudinal loads, bending and torsion loads, which has a positive effect on the performance indicators and service life of the structure as a whole.
Low weight adds attractiveness to the product for use in industrial and civil construction for reinforcing reinforced concrete structures, manufacturing bridges, assembling wagons and heavy vehicles, lightweight roofing structures and columns. Bent channel in low-rise housing construction is used in monolithic structures, for the construction of verandas, decks, fences, piers, canopies, summer cottages and garden gazebos. Bent galvanized steel channel is used as frame guides for the installation of plasterboard structures.
